Police Officer License Plate Search Experience

Transitioning newly acquired applications.

The problem

This application was part of an company Motorola acquired and therefore has it's own UI/UX that doesn't align with Motorola Solutions' brand and design system. How to align the application and add new features in a thoughtful and meaningful way?

Actions

Decided to split the redesign effort in two phases; Phase 1 is a initial redesign based on existing code. Phase 2 is a complete overhaul of the application.

Performed a heuristic evaluation, performed user research, prioritized issues, created roadmap of improvement areas. For each improvement area defined and prioritized minions (see Minion Method), defined current, ideal and next iteration workflows, created lo-fi wireframes, iterated throughout with product managers and development leads. Delivered hi-fi wireframes and behavior documentation.

Results

Phase 1 design work (see below) was released and well accepted by its users. The design is responsive and has been optimized for in-car use. Phase 2 is in progress.
